Return home via Fredericksburg

All that remained was to cross the entire State of Texas. I stopped in Fredericksburg to breakup the drive and also to celebrate and have a couple days to reflect before it was all over. A nice pull-through site (though not very level) for my final campsite of the trip. When I told my neighbor about the trip he began to walk around Wolfie and returned to me in shock that there wasn’t a single Read more…

Big Band National Park

There was only one National Park remaining on my itinerary and I thought that a remote park in Texas probably wouldn’t impress me too much after everywhere that I had been on this trip. How very wrong I was. After a VERY long day of driving I arrived at Maverick Ranch PV Park, which is part of Lajitas Golf Resort and a new level of fancy for me. It was nice to get settled in Read more…

Carlsbad Caverns & Guadalupe Mts NPs

Departed White Sands, New Mexico and a huge feeling of pride when I crossed into Texas. This was the state where I started the trip and my new home. However, this is when you realize how large Texas is as I still had plenty of miles to travel on this journey. My parents followed as I battled strong winds and passed Guadalupe Mountains National Park, getting a sneak peak of the park. We crossed back Read more…

White Sands National Park

Crossed into New Mexico and added the final sticker to the map. I towed Wolfie all around the US, across 29 states. It felt really good to add the final sticker. All the weeks of planning had come to life and I was feeling like a pro. For the third time on the journey my parents joined me. This was a time to celebrate everything that had happened since I last saw them. We toured Read more…

Tucson & Saguaro NP

This is a part of the trip that was never supposed to happen. The original plan was to leave the camper in Tucson and return to Pheonix to stay with a friend and then have just a day or two to regroup in Tucson and then on to White Sands. As I had already spent time with my friend on an earlier detour, I figured I’d pass the time in Tucson. My first surprise came Read more…

Monument Valley & Navajo Nation

Left Wolfie in Flagstaff and headed out for an overnight trip through Navajo Nation land. I had an early morning tour scheduled in Monument Valley and figured I’d make the most of the journey out there by configuring a full day road trip around Arizona. The first stop was a site that I remembered visiting as a kid on a family road trip, the Meteor Crater and Barringer Space Museum. 50,000 years ago, a meteor Read more…

South Rim & Sedona

I was happy to have Wolfie in tow as I returned to Arizona and the high elevations of Flagstaff. We set up camp at the Woody Mountain Campground on Route 66. After so many weeks in the desert heat I was in absolute heaven and excited to put on a sweatshirt as I enjoyed life sitting outside Wolfie and meeting people in the RV park. Unfortunately, the next day it was back into heat as Read more…

Capitol Reef & Grand Staircase-Escalante

It was time to leave Moab and explore the remainder of the National Parks. It was a beautiful drive to Capitol Reef National Park passing the coolest rock formations and all the desert colors. The area was settled in the 1880’s by Latter-Day Saints and orchards and pastureland created. When it became a national park a decision was made to keep the orchards, so I enjoyed apple picking and then found a spot to enjoy Read more…

Mesa Verde National Park

It was raining in Moab and flash flood warnings were keeping me from hiking in the national parks. As I was trying to figure out how to spend my day, my dad reminded me that Mesa Verde National Park wasn’t far away. The weather looked slightly better in that direction, and I was excited to cross into Colorado which was a state I left off the itinerary. Due to construction and preservation efforts the Cliff Read more…

Canyonlands National Park

After several months of a lot of driving I was happy to have someone else take the wheel. Spent the day in Canyonlands National Park with NAVTEC Expeditions on the White Rim 4×4 trail along the Colorado River. It was a small group of us and timed it just right as the weather was going to be moving in that evening. We entered on the east side of the park along the river on a Read more…

Arches National Park

Left Wolfie behind in Kanab while I set off on a driving tour along Southern Utah. Was excited to spend a full day hiking around Arches National Park. Got an early start and watched the sun rise while hiking out to Delicate Arch from Wolfe Ranch. It is a challenging 3 mile roundtrip hike to get to the arch but completely worth it to stand underneath it. It was an exciting morning as there was Read more…

North Rim Grand Canyon

Wolfie had spent almost the entire month of August parked at a storage unit in Las Vegas. I was excited to finally get back into the camper and make our way to Kanab, Utah. Passing through the corner of Arizona along the way, we earned two more state stickers. In Kanab, we were rewarded with amazing views and brand-new facilities at the Grand Plateau RV Resort. My favorite part were the dark skies and clear Read more…
