All that remained was to cross the entire State of Texas. I stopped in Fredericksburg to breakup the drive and also to celebrate and have a couple days to reflect before it was all over. A nice pull-through site (though not very level) for my final campsite of the trip. When I told my neighbor about the trip he began to walk around Wolfie and returned to me in shock that there wasn’t a single scratch or dent. I then headed into town for a big German dinner and celebratory beers.
The next day was spent touring wineries and breweries in the Hill Country. Was feeling great by the time we hit Garrison Brothers and enjoyed frozen Dr Peppers.
Ended the day with another big German meal.
Switched from German food to BBQ and enjoyed some time in Luckenbach, Texas. I was enjoying the sunny weather and after months in the desert it was nice to see green grass and plenty of trees.
The next morning, I took my time breaking down camp and cleaning and flushing everything. I entered my parents’ address into the GPS and headed home. Looking at the pictures of me pulling up to the house and backing into the driveway make me tear up. The odometer read 22,847 miles. I had been to 35 states plus DC. Visited 26 National Parks. Parked and setup camp at 34 different sites. A total of 163 days on the road. An amazing chapter of my life drew to a close and it was time for the next adventure.
