I spent so many months planning and thinking about the trip and I was now at a stretch of days that I wasn’t looking forward to. I had just spent a wonderful long stretch in Upper Peninsula Michigan and now needed to hitch up and travel almost 900 miles over three days to get to Lincoln, Nebraska. The first stop was Oakdale, Wisconsin. I arrived at the RV park and got to work unhitching and setting up camp for the night. I was exhausted and had just finished when my wonderful neighbors walked over with a beer and offered it to me as I looked like I could use one and asked me to join them by the fire that evening. It was such a kind gesture and after being alone for so many days in Michigan it was something that I really needed. Before joining them I headed to a local bar to enjoy fried cheese curds (can’t go to Wisconsin and not eat them). I then joined my neighbors to enjoy that beer as well as s’mores by the fire to end the night. It was then on to Albert Lea, Minnesota, another state that I’ve never been to. After setting up I relaxed outside my camper and met another wonderful couple that was full-time on the road with their kids. The absolute nicest people who provided great travel advice for my upcoming trip to the Black Hills. I also scanned Atlas Obscura and saw that the Spam Museum was near by so stopped by there to explore and learn the history. What I thought would be a dreaded three days were so enjoyable as I got to know new people, enjoy the miles of scenery and audiobooks while on the road. (I stayed at the Oakdale KOA Journey and Albert Lea / Austin KOA Holiday. KOA is becoming my go-to choice while on the road.)

I finally arrived in Lincoln and with it came the arrival of the summer heat which plagued me all summer long. The good news is that I was taking a break from Wolfie and enjoying the A/C at my sister’s house. My parents drove up and they moved into Wolfie in order to do a little work on Wolfie (installing shades to the exterior to help with the heat). It was a weird feeling having someone else occupy my home. Despite the heat we did venture to the Omaha zoo and I’m not sure if the animals or us were suffering more under the summer heat. We did enjoy seeing the animals and exploring it.
