In 1969, the Cuyahoga River was so polluted that it caught fire. The river has come a long way since then and preservation and clean-up continues, with the river valley between Akron and Cleveland becoming a National Park in 2000. Arrival there meant that Wolfie finally left New York and two more state stickers were added to the map.
My first stop in the park was to the 60-foot Brandywine Falls. The boardwalks (with lots of stairs) provide a great view of the falls which are worth seeing. I must admit that the rest of the valley hike wasn’t as interesting and not well marked or easy to follow.
I did enjoy my afternoon hike which was the 1.8 mile loop around The Ledges. The trail circles an interesting plateau rock formation. Overall Cuyahoga Valley provided a great place to spend the day but I must admit that it can’t really compete with the other National Parks that I’m visiting.
