Wolfie had stayed in place while I traveled around, so after a long break from hauling a camper it was time to hitch up and head to the Finger Lakes. I had visited the area three times prior and was excited to see that it was the perfect location to breakup the drive to Ohio. I felt relaxed and enjoyed time just relaxing at the campsite versus worrying about having to see and do everything that the location had to offer. I was also very excited to be joined by a friend for a wonderful first full day of walking through Watkins Glen State Park and then grabbing lunch in town. As evident by the pictures the scenery walking through the gorge was unbelievable. We were also lucky that there had been a lot of rain lately so the waterfalls were really flowing.

Of course you can’t go to the Finger Lakes without visiting the wineries. I received several suggestions from friends and enjoyed the ones that I was able to make it to. I started off at Lakewood and sampled their sweeter wines. Followed it with a visit to Keuka Springs which I really enjoyed, especially the deck overlooking the lake (probably my favorite). I also visited Fox Run, they have amazing food and cafe area so a great place to stop for food. Others that were recommended that I didn’t get a chance to enjoy were: Hazlitt, Dr Konstantin Frank, and Ravines.

I stayed at Canandaigua / Rochester KOA, friendly staff and a good stopping place. I enjoyed the public announcement for ice cream happy hour every evening. The best part was having another female solo camper next to me. I really enjoyed talking with her and also very much appreciate her allowing me to tour her casita (home). Other things in the area included a trip to one of the locks of the Erie Canal (I don’t recommend it or at least not the lock that I went to). And of course I had to pay a visit to the horse track, Finger Lakes Racetrack.
