Despite all of my time on the road, I was ready for a road trip. Towing a camper is an exhausting endeavor and limits the number of miles you can travel in a day (and I don’t even want to talk about the horrible gas mileage). So Zen and I left Wolfie behind and we were off to Acadia National Park in Maine. The journey there was a long nine hour drive but I did not mind as it was through some of the most beautiful countryside. We started off in Lake George, New York and took the backroads crossing through Vermont and New Hampshire. We traveled through Green Mountains and White Mountains. As I was driving I saw several people walking along the road and bridge and looked to my left and looked down into the Queeche Gorge. Definitely had to stop and join them for a gander. I kept taking note of towns in Vermont as I definitely need to return and spend more time there.
The return journey to Lake George, we traveled down through Massachusetts and broke up the trip with a stop in Gloucester. Took my time on the drive and stopped off in Freeport, Maine to shop at the LL Bean store and then grab a late lunch in Kennebunkport, Maine. Stayed with friends in Gloucester who greeted me with homemade sangria and snacks. New Englanders know how to entertain. Had a wonderful sushi dinner on the water and spent the next day walking around and out on their boat (despite the cold weather).
My parents watch a lot of Law & Order crime solvers type TV shows and I watch a lot of reality tv. While I spent the month with them there was one show that we agreed on and bonded over with is Wicked Tuna. It was a very special treat to see some of the boats from the show. I champion their mantra on my trip, “failure is not an option”.
