While I was in the Catskills, Wolfie was left at the Newburgh KOA. And prior to that, Wolfie was left behind as I visited friends in the DC area. He was upset and in protest made it extremely difficult to get my sway bars connected so we could depart. I explained that we would finally spend time together and were on our way to Lake George. With an understanding reached, we departed for a quick and easy drive up to the Adirondacks. The rest of the day went smooth and I even backed into my site with no issue. It was nice to be back with Wolfie and back into the flow of life in the RV park. We were happy campers and resumed my favorite afternoon activity of watching campers arrive and set up while enjoying an adult beverage. We stayed at Lake George Escape Campground. It was the largest RV park I’d been to and if you have kids it is definitely designed for you. Lots of activities and things going on. Great if you want to be social and have a fun time.
Cascade Mountain: It was nice to get back to hiking. This was my first hike on the trip without my parents so I was looking for a challenge. I picked Cascade Mountain as it claims to be the ‘easiest’ of the Adirondack 46ers. Cascade Mt is #36 on a list of 46 mountains in the High Peaks Wilderness. It is 4.4 miles out and back trail with around 2,000 feet elevation gain. It is rated difficult based on rock scrambles and steep sections, including some grueling stone stair climbs (all of us on the trail laughed at how out of shape we were after our dormant quarantined lives during COVID). It was worth it for the amazing 360 degree views at the summit. I felt both accomplished and sore. I earned a beer and lunch in nearby Lake Placid afterwards.
Rest of the time was spent resting and recovering. Enjoyed driving around the area and taking in the sights and beauty of nature. I spent a morning walking around Saratoga Springs, going in and out of shops. I then headed to Lake George Village for lunch and an afternoon cruise on the lake with Lake George Steamboat Company. Just as I was finally finding my rhythm of the fulltime RV lifestyle, hiking and sightseeing, it was time to leave Wolfie behind once again and travel on to Acadia National Park in Maine.
